Botoxin Newport Beach

As the face ages it loses its fullness, becomes more hollowed in areas, collagen breaks down forming fine lines and wrinkles, and facial bones begin to shift.

— Dr. Mark Anton, Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon

What is Botox?

Botox is a safe, injectable drug that is used to address a wide range of cosmetic and medical issues.

What does Botox do?

Botox injections temporarily block nerve impulses that drive muscle movements, allowing those targeted muscles to relax, resulting in the reduction or elimination of lines and wrinkles.

How do wrinkles form?

A youthful face is depicted by an inverted triangle with the fullness across the temple and cheek areas. Over time, as the fat pads begin to slip and the skin becomes laxer, the lower half of the face becomes more full, or the face begins to narrow, looking longer and more drawn. One of the best ways to hit the refresh button on your appearance is by replenishing the volume your skin has lost.

It's hard to believe but by the age of 20 the collagen in our face is already beginning to break down, and by age 50, there is a 30% reduction of overall collagen, a fibrous protein deep in the dermis that gives structure to the skin and supports functions of elastin and hyaluronic acid (HA). Elastin is an elastic protein that maintains the skin's shape, gives it its snap. Hyaluronic acid cushions and lubricates to keep the skin hydrated. More collagen enables the presence of more elastin and HA, which is the key to maintaining younger looking and acting skin.

Life can be hard on your face, perhaps making you look older than you are or older than you would like. Botox may help you turn back the clock.

A brief history of Botox

Botox was approved by the FDA in 1989 to treat eye muscle disorders. The FDA later cleared the neuromodulator to be used to treat lines and wrinkles on the face and "crow's feet" under the corners of the eyes.

What Are Injectables?

Injectables are ideal for restoring the youthfulness to your face, or for creating balance by augmenting cheeks, lips, jawlines, chins, and temples. Let's face it, not everyone is born with perfect symmetry or ages at the same rate.

Even if you have had a surgical procedure to restore your youthful appearances such as a facelift, or a non- surgical procedure like Fractora, Injectables will enhance your face's youthful appearance. Injectables, administered correctly by a licensed professional with an artistic eye and years of training, can enhance your beauty in as little as a one-hour office visit.

Our philosophy at Aesthetics MD is procedures so natural you can keep it a secret and this applies to our non-surgical procedures, like Injectables, as well. Duck lips, lumpiness, and overfilled facial features are not the signs of natural beauty we strive for. Our goal is to create balance in your face by using the right product, in the right area and in the right amount. This process begins with an aesthetic consultation with one of our experts to assess your facial structure, your aging process, your desires, and even your budget. At Aesthetics MD we offer a variety of Injectables and our aesthetic experts will discuss the best option for you.

What is a Liquid Facelift?

Many patients inquire about a "liquid facelift," which involves the use of numerous fillers and injectables, used to treat all the aging conditions of the face including skin laxity, fine lines, deep wrinkles, hollows, and loss of contours. Our aesthetic specialist can discuss the pros and cons to a "liquid facelift" versus a surgical facelift.

A liquid facelift differs slightly to a normal Botox treatment and may include various types of dermal fillers. The procedure is carefully curated to suit your face's unique needs and may use different amounts of filler or Botox in strategically planned places to address various concerns at once. Patients who are looking for an alternative to a traditional facelift may find that this procedure offers noticeable improvements and may even help to improve your appearance naturally overtime.

Often referred to as a lunchtime treatment because of its quick application and minimal side effects, Botox works to target the underlying causes of wrinkles - the muscles below. The primary ingredient in Botox, botulinum toxin, temporarily freezes the muscles, relaxing the area and helping the wrinkles smoothen over time.

Botox is an extremely versatile procedure! It is FDA-approved to treat a myriad of cosmetic and medical issues. Most popularly, it is approved for the treatment of moderate to severe wrinkles in adults. In particular, botulinum toxin shows great results when injected into the:

  • Forehead
  • Perioral
  • Crows feet
  • Chin
  • Neck

What to Expect from a Botox Treatment

"Lunchtime treatment" is a popular term coined to refer to cosmetic procedures that could be done in as little as a lunch break, with no downtime or side effects. Botox is often considered the original lunchtime treatment, as it offers patients a safe and fast way to start reducing signs of aging. When performed by a licensed professional, Botox is a fairly pain-free and quick treatment that requires no numbing. Average treatment time is between 15-30 minutes depending on the number of areas treated.

Our patients see results 24-48 hours after treatment. Fine lines and wrinkles are diminished or erased. They will start to appear gradually then more dramatically over the first week. Many patients love this aspect, as it allows their results to appear gradually and, thus, seem more natural.

Botulinum toxin is particularly effective in reducing deep lines. Treatments are:

  • Brief
  • Comfortable
  • Convenient
  • Comfortable

Plus, the treatment requires no downtime.

Your injections will be given in your provider's office or treatment room. First, after cleaning your face and applying a numbing agent if you desire, your injector will use a thin needle to place a carefully measured amount of Botox into your treatment areas. Multiple areas can be treated in a single session that seldom takes longer than ten minutes.

Following treatment, the face may appear red at the injection site for a few hours. Bruising is uncommon but can occur and is resolved within 3-5 days. To minimize bruising, patients can apply pressure to the injection site for ten minutes following treatment.

How long do Botox results last?

Some tenderness in the treated area is normal but resolves within 3-5 days. Botox has been clinically proven to last up to 4 months. For best results, protect skin by limiting sun exposure and applying a physical sunblock daily, such as CORE made in the shade or Elta MD. In some cases, Botox may enhance Volbella's XC results and longevity.

Botox FAQs

Most patients feel only a slight pinch or prick. If you'd like, your injector can also apply ice or a numbing agent to your face before and after your procedure.

All procedures come with risks such as infection, bleeding, and allergic reactions.

Very rarely, serious complications have resulted from Botox leaking and spreading to unintended body areas.

Possible side effects of Botox include:

  • Weakness
  • Throat swelling
  • Facial swelling
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Changes in vision

It is when performed by a trained and experienced injector who uses only FDA-approved Botox and materials.

Botox has been approved for use in 95 countries, and results of safety and efficacy research have appeared in more than 500 peer-reviewed articles and journals.

Injections of Botox and similar neuromodulators are annually the most-performed nonsurgical cosmetic procedure performed in the United States.

We recommend regular follow-up injections to optimize and prolong results, separated by at least three months.

Not if your injections are administered by a trained, licensed, and skilled provider. At Aesthetics MD, we create natural and balanced results. The only "difference" others will notice about you is how much better you look!

Both are very effective in reducing or eliminating wrinkles. The two biggest differences are that fillers last longer, but Botox costs less.

If your Botox injections are given for purely cosmetic reasons, your insurance will not pay.

But if there are legitimate and documented medical reasons for your treatment, your insurance may cover all or part of the costs. Determine your eligibility for insurance benefits prior to your treatment.

The cost of Botox in Newport Beach will depend on how many units of Botox you need and the size and locations of your treatment areas.
