5 things I wish I knew before my facelift

1. There is No “Perfect Age” For a Facelift

"Before deciding to have a consultation, I regularly asked myself when was the right time to have a facelift. I started to notice signs of an aging face in my early forties. My lower face was sagging, I had deep lines around my mouth, and I always looked tired. I spent years telling myself I was too young for a facelift before I had my consultation with Dr. Anton. Apparently I was not alone in this hesitation."

Since everyone’s skin is unique, everyone ages at different rates. Loose, sagging tissues in the face and neck, loss of definition in the jawline, and excess fatty tissues are just a few of the symptoms that facelift candidates may notice. Some may notice this in their early to mid-forties, while others may not be bothered by these symptoms until their fifties or sixties. During your consultation with Dr. Anton, clearly express the concerns you have with your aging face regardless of if you think you are the “right” age.

2. You Don’t Notice A Good Facelift

"I have seen a lot of bad facelifts. So many, in fact, that I thought that was the only kind of facelift out there. I would see women on the street looking pulled too tight, as if they had been pulled through a wind tunnel. Most concerningly, a lot of these women were people who I knew were spending top dollar to get these surgeries performed. At my facelift consultation with Dr. Anton, I expressed this concern. He understood my concerns and showed me many before and after pictures. The women in these pictures did not look like they had had a facelift. I would not look at these women on the street and say, “Wow she had a great facelift!” In truth, I would have no idea that any of these women had a facelift because the results looked, as they should, natural."

It is a common fear when deciding to get plastic surgery that people around you will notice the work you have had done…and not in a good way. Facelifts are notoriously noticeable when they go wrong. A bad facelift – skin pulled too tight, noticeable scars around the ears, or pixie ears–can make you look older! Dr. Anton helps you to put your best face forward by implementing his own unique Triple Layer Facelift that minimizes scarring and prevents the undesirable “wind blown” look that so many associate with a bad facelift. When we say, “Plastic Surgery So Natural You Can Keep It A Secret”, we mean it.

3. I Am the One Who Makes This Decision For Me

"I have spent years questioning this facelift procedure. I have looked for guidance outside myself in times when I’ve questioned the surgery. When I first brought it up to my friends, they all reminded me of all the reasons not to do it. I almost felt guilty for wanting to change the way I looked and for not wanting to “age gracefully,” as so many of my friends put it. Between the passive aggressive comments and the nights spent Googling anything that could possibly go wrong in a facelift surgery, I started to ask myself if I could just be content with my aging face."

Deciding to get a facelift is a very personal choice. The staff at Aesthetics MD is here to support you during your decision-making process. During your consultation with Dr. Anton, you will discuss the areas of your face that you are unhappy with, and he will provide you with options — both surgical and nonsurgical — that can help to reverse the signs of aging. We want to make sure you leave your consultation knowing that you have plenty of options and pick from the one that makes you the most comfortable.

4. The Sun Can Be Your Enemy

"When I was younger, I always wanted to have beautiful, bronzed skin. There were more times than I would like to admit that I sat on a beach with tanning oil and no SPF. At the end of the summer, I would look tanned and beautiful, but I had no idea the repercussions that those UV rays would have later in life. Signs of premature aging came in my mid-twenties, but I ignored the fine lines to keep my summer tan."

The sun can truly be one of the most damaging elements in your daily life. It can also bring many health benefits, such as vitamin D, which helps prevent depression. It’s essential to find a sun balance by protecting your skin from the harmful rays that lead to premature aging. We always recommend you stay away from dangerous tanning booths and opt for spray-on tans instead. Our CORE product line offers a daily physical block tinted sunscreen, “Made in the Shade,” which can save your face and neck from early signs of aging and add a hint of glow.

5. Start An Aggressive Skincare Program Early On

"It never even occurred to me when I was in my teens and twenties that I should be taking preemptive care of my skin. The only time I put any thought into it was when I had a breakout that needed to be covered up. I truly wish there had been more information on high quality beauty products available to me at a young age, so I could have taken more preventative measures."

Newport Beach plastic surgery and medspa provider Aesthetics MD offers a line of medical grade skincare beauty products known as CORE beauty. Why medical grade? These products are formulated with active ingredients at a higher potency for effectiveness. Many over the counter products don’t include the scientific research that deliver results for reversing the signs of aging. CORE products are designed to address every skin type and most skin conditions, so you can keep your skin looking youthful for longer. We recommend at least three CORE products for every skin type and every skin age.
