Contemplating a Facelift in Newport Beach, CA

Dr. Anton’s signature Triple Layer Facelift allows for very natural results while still achieving a firmer, more refreshed look. Unlike other facelifts that primarily tighten the skin, Dr. Anton’s technique involves tightening the SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) then later re-draping the skin so that it is never pulled too tight or unnaturally across the face. Dr. Anton often includes the lower eyes (blepharoplasty) in his Triple Layer Facelift, as this eliminates the undesirable “wind-blown” look.

A Facelift is performed to remove loose, sagging tissue of the face and neck, providing a more refreshed and firmer look. This plastic surgery procedure involves three areas of the face: the forehead, the mid-face, and the lower face and neck. A good candidate for this procedure has one or more of the following concerns:

  • Deep cheek folds: a deep line that runs from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth
  • Loss of a well-defined jawline
  • Loose sagging skin and excess fatty tissue
  • A brow line that has dropped throughout the years

Preparing for the Procedure

During your consultation with Dr. Anton, your areas of concern and your surgical options will be addressed. Skin elasticity, current folds and wrinkling of the skin will determine what options will provide the best overall result. It is common to have a Blepharoplasty (Upper and Lower Eyes) procedure in conjunction with a Facelift.

Planning a convenient time to have a Facelift is usually the most difficult part of the surgery for the patient. It is ideal to plan this procedure eight weeks or more (the more time the better) before an important social event, such as a wedding or reunion. Generally, after two weeks of healing, most of the bruising and swelling will subside. After two weeks, some residual minor swelling is common and can last eight weeks or more.

About the Procedure

This facial procedure is done under general anesthesia and can take approximately 4 to 6 hours. Incisions are strategically placed in the hairline and follow the inside of the crease of the ear and behind the earlobe. Scars are very thin, well hidden, and unnoticeable once healed.

What to Expect After Surgery

Most patients wake from surgery feeling tired and groggy. Your head will be wrapped in a compression bandage/chin strap garment. Bruising and swelling will occur and will be most prominent immediately after surgery, gradually subsiding throughout the post-operative process. Mild to moderate pain is to be expected; however, it is usually alleviated by prescription pain medication. Overall, most patients feel their Facelift was less painful than anticipated and are able to discontinue their pain medication after 4-5 days.

Your activities will be restricted for a two-week period, including no lifting, bending or straining of any kind. You will be advised during your post-operative appointments regarding these restrictions. The healing process varies from patient to patient and activity level is decided on an individual basis.
