Facelift at age 50

Orange County middle aged mother consulted with Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and Castle Connolly Top Doctor, Mark A. Anton FACS over concerns of facial aging. At age 50 she was unhappy with the signs of aging including fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. She had done Botox but was looking for something that would address her sagging jowls and her droopy eyelids. She received a full facelift at the SMAS (sub-muscular aponeurotic system) layer. This deeper SMAS layer is made of more inelastic, fibrous tissue that hold the tension when elevated and re-positioned. The SMAS layer is key to a natural looking facelift because the overlying skin is re-draped with minimal tension. This offers a very natural result that stands the test of time.

Incisions were placed in the hairline and follow the inside crease of the ear and behind the earlobe, making the scars hidden and unnoticeable. Easy for her to wear her hair up or pulled back in a pony tail. She also had an upper and lower blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) to remove the excess skin and give her eyes a more open and refreshed look.  These photos were taken 3 months after her procedure. The patient reports looking as young as she feels now. And the best part? No one guesses she had a facelift. Her friends notice she looks younger but they think it’s because she’s rested or maybe has lost a few pounds.

Many of Dr. Anton’s patients opt for a facelift in their early to mid-fifties, about the time when facial aging really begins to show. In the past, women held out until their sixties before contemplating a facelift. Today, as more women take care of themselves and are living younger longer, they want to look as good as they feel.
